Frequently Asked Questions

Does Ayurveda work? Is it a Science?

Yes, Ayurveda works and is considered a science. Ayurveda, often called “the science of life,” has been practiced for over 5,000 years and is rooted in a deep understanding of the body, mind, and spirit. It is a comprehensive system of health that focuses on maintaining balance and preventing disease by understanding the unique constitution (Dosha) of each individual and how various factors—like diet, lifestyle, and environment—affect that balance.

Ayurveda is also supported by a growing body of scientific research that validates its principles and practices. Studies have shown the effectiveness of Ayurvedic treatments in managing chronic conditions, improving overall health, and enhancing quality of life. Techniques such as meditation, yoga, dietary adjustments, and herbal remedies have been proven to reduce stress, improve digestion, and support the immune system.

In essence, Ayurveda is both a time-tested tradition and a science that continues to demonstrate its relevance and efficacy in modern health care.

Can I use Western/Allopathic Medicine and Ayurveda?

Yes, you can use Western (Allopathic) medicine and Ayurveda together, and they can complement each other very well. Ayurveda focuses on balancing the body, mind, and spirit, using natural remedies and lifestyle practices to prevent and treat imbalances, while Western medicine is highly effective for acute conditions, emergencies, and specific diagnoses where fast-acting treatment is needed.

When these systems are used together, Ayurveda can support the body’s natural healing processes and help reduce side effects, while Western medicine addresses more immediate or severe health issues. However, as you achieve greater balance and health through Ayurveda, your reliance on Western medicine may naturally reduce, and in some cases, could be entirely eliminated. This is because Ayurveda aims to correct the root causes of imbalances, leading to sustained wellness and less need for external interventions.

It’s important to inform both your Ayurvedic practitioner and your Western healthcare provider about all the treatments you are using to ensure a harmonious and safe approach to your health.

How quickly will my treatment plan take effect?

The effectiveness of your treatment plan depends on various factors, including your unique constitution (Dosha), the nature of your imbalances, and your commitment to the recommended lifestyle changes and treatments. Some people notice meaningful improvements in a short amount of time, especially with consistent application of Ayurvedic principles. However, like any healing journey, the pace can vary from person to person.

It’s important to remember that Ayurveda is a holistic approach, focusing on long-term balance and health, so while some results may be quick, others might take time as your body gradually restores its natural equilibrium.

How can my doctor perform a pulse reading over a video call?

While a radial pulse reading cannot be done over a video call, a health consultation can still be highly effective. During a virtual session, the vaidya (Ayurvedic doctor) relies on auditory and visual cues, along with your detailed discussion of symptoms and overall well-being. This comprehensive approach allows the vaidya to expertly and accurately diagnose your condition, offering personalized advice and treatments even without direct pulse diagnosis.

What can Panchakarma do for me?

Panchakarma is a powerful rejuvenation and detoxification therapy that not only cleanses the body of toxins but also reverses the effects of aging, bringing renewed health and beauty. This treatment works deeply within the body to release toxic substances and restore balance, effectively turning back the clock on biological age.

Scientifically designed, Panchakarma revitalizes the layers of memory stored deep within your body, helping to clear out the imprints of disease and aging. One of the key focuses of Panchakarma is to balance excess Vata, which is often responsible for accelerating the aging process. By clearing out this excess Vata, Panchakarma helps to slow down the effects of aging, making you feel more youthful and vibrant.

In essence, Panchakarma offers a comprehensive approach to renewing your body and mind, promoting long-lasting health and radiance.

What can you tell with the pulse diagnosis?

Pulse diagnosis, or Nadi Pariksha, is a profound and precise method in Ayurveda that allows a skilled vaidya (Ayurvedic doctor) to tune into the current state of your physiology. Through the “window” of the pulse, the vaidya can detect both manifested and unmanifested imbalances in your body.

This method is incredibly sensitive and can reveal subtle changes in your Doshas (the fundamental energies governing your body) before they manifest as symptoms. The pulse diagnosis enables your treatment plan to be fine-tuned at every step, ensuring it precisely meets the changing needs of your body each day.

At the Panchakarma (PK) Center, all treatments, herbs, and oils are carefully prepared and customized according to the information gleaned from your pulse. The vaidya adjusts these treatments daily based on the pulse reading to deliver the most effective improvements for your health. This approach makes pulse diagnosis the simplest and most accurate method for understanding and addressing your unique health needs.

What are the best things we can do for our health?

According to Ayurveda, everything we experience—whether it’s a nutritious meal, the love we share with our family, or the stress of a long day at work—intimately affects our health. The body “digests” and is transformed by every experience we have, making each moment an opportunity to either support or detract from our well-being.

Since food is the fuel our physiology relies on, diet plays a particularly crucial role in our health. As Dr. J.R. Raju puts it, “You can eat health or disease, and you choose each time you put something in your body. The physiology is the expression of what you eat.” This means that the choices we make with our diet directly influence our overall health.

To maintain and enhance your health, it’s essential to:

  1. Choose a wholesome diet: Opt for fresh, nourishing foods that are appropriate for your unique constitution (Dosha).
  2. Cultivate positive experiences: Surround yourself with love, joy, and positivity, as these also nourish your mind and body.
  3. Manage stress: Balance your work and relaxation to avoid the negative effects of stress on your health.

By making conscious choices in both diet and lifestyle, you can profoundly impact your health and well-being.

What is a Rasayana?

A Rasayana in Ayurveda is something that nourishes the body and mind, promoting longevity and reversing the effects of aging. Rasayanas can take many forms, from positive behaviors to specially nourishing foods, all of which play a vital role in enhancing life and well-being.

There are different types of Rasayanas—some are general and beneficial for everyone, while others are more specific, tailored to the needs of children, the elderly, men, or women. For instance, “not worrying” is considered a powerful Rasayana for health. Dr. Raju emphasizes the importance of looking to the positive and avoiding negativity as a way to foster this Rasayana in daily life.

As Maharishi Mahesh Yogi wisely said, “What we put our attention on grows stronger in our lives.” This principle highlights that behavioral Rasayanas are essential for maximizing the effectiveness of herbal Rasayanas. Without the foundation of positive behavior, even the most potent herbal Rasayanas may not achieve their full potential.

Who is Dr. J.R. Raju?

Dr. J.R. Raju, also affectionately known as Father Raju, is an expert in pulse reading, offering the traditional Ayurvedic consultation experience where the doctor identifies imbalances in your physiology without you needing to describe your symptoms. His refined skill in pulse diagnosis allows him to detect even the subtlest signs of imbalance, often identifying and preventing illnesses before they fully manifest.

Dr. Raju’s expertise extends to creating highly effective and individualized treatments using rare and powerful herbal formulas. He was the pulse diagnostician for the renowned saint and vaidya, Balraj Maharishi, who had knowledge of 5,000 herbs. His patients include dignitaries, presidents, prime ministers, and members of royal families, reflecting the global respect and trust in his Ayurvedic expertise.

Dr. Raju was also the personal physician of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Is Ayurveda only for sick people?

Ayurveda is not only for sick people. It is based on two main principles: keeping healthy individuals healthy and restoring health when someone falls ill. This means that Ayurveda is for everyone who wants to maintain their health and well-being. Whether you’re looking to prevent illness, manage stress, or simply enhance your vitality, Ayurveda offers practical and personalized approaches to help you stay balanced and vibrant.

Is Panchakarma better than other detox treatments?

Yes, Panchakarma is considered superior to other detox treatments. Why? Because Panchakarma not only detoxifies the body but also restores balance to the individual, rejuvenates the body, and significantly reduces stress. Unlike typical detox programs that focus solely on cleansing, Panchakarma addresses the root causes of imbalance in the body’s systems, promoting long-term health and vitality. This comprehensive approach makes it a more holistic and effective option for achieving and maintaining well-being.

What is the ideal length of Panchakarma treatment?

The ideal length of a Panchakarma treatment is 23 days. This allows ample time to undergo the full range of treatments and procedures necessary for deep cleansing and rejuvenation. However, if 23 days are not feasible, a minimum of 7 to 10 days is recommended to experience the core benefits of Panchakarma.

Even if you can only manage one day of Panchakarma, or a single personalized treatment, it will still have a positive impact on your well-being. Each session contributes to restoring balance and promoting health, so whatever time you can dedicate will be beneficial.

How often should we do Panchakarma?

Ideally, Panchakarma is recommended at the change of each season to help the body cleanse and adjust to the new environmental conditions. However, given today’s busy lifestyles and responsibilities, it might not always be feasible to undergo Panchakarma that frequently.

The next best option is to have Panchakarma every six months or at least once a year. This regular cleansing helps to remove accumulated toxins, rejuvenate your body, and maintain balance in your Doshas, promoting overall health and well-being.

Can I bring my child to Panchakarma?

Panchakarma can be beneficial for individuals of all ages, including children. However, bringing a child to Panchakarma should be considered carefully and typically on a case-by-case basis.

While most Panchakarma treatments are designed for adults, there are some gentle, individualized treatments that can be adapted for children if needed. These might include milder forms of therapy or specific treatments that address a child’s particular health condition.

If your child wants to accompany you to the clinic during your Panchakarma treatments, this is also considered case-by-case. We understand the importance of family support during healing; in some cases, it may be possible for your child to be with you. However, ensuring that the clinic environment remains peaceful and conducive to the therapeutic process is essential.

Before your visit, please discuss this with the clinic staff so we can make comfortable and supportive arrangements for you and your child.
